Barriers in our state of mind are normal, and sharing your story will help others rise above as they renew their mind.

It has come to my attention that some (all) of our Kingdom Mentors feel unworthy: unworthy to speak into the life of another guy; unworthy to walk through life with another man in brotherhood, unworthy to bear the title of “mentor.”

I would like to THANK each of you who feel that way now, or have felt that way through any part of this Kingdom Mentors journey for being NORMAL. This is normal. This is the life of each man as he goes through life. It is part of your story.

The beauty of your story is that it is a powerful weapon against secrecy, against loneliness, and against the feeling of being a Christian aberration – someone NOT normal. Your story brings another man in from left field where he feels he is alone to a place where he understands he is not alone where he stands. Your story helps another man make sense of his own by adding context and information that he might be lacking from his own life experience. Your story fills in some of the gaps in the story that he is creating in his mind, so that his brain can take that information and make a story that doesn’t fill in the gaps with fear, uncertainty, and fillers like addiction. Our brain requires a story to make sense of each day, each situation, building into the overarching story of our life and, when our story walks alone, it is often filled only with our own stand-alone experience: shaky at best.

Your story brings another man in from left field where he feels he is alone to a place where he understands he is not alone where he stands.

I’d like to suggest that being a Kingdom Mentor isn’t about a feeling of worthiness. It’s not about formal meetings and schedules. It’s about story. It’s about being willing to be vulnerable enough with another guy to share part of your story with him. Your experience; your failings, your successes, your passions and your experience with Jesus. There are no pre-requisite grades, just a willingness. Thank you for acknowledging that you don’t feel worthy – and thank you for being willing.
