What if you CAN'T Change?

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take an online seminar with a well-known author and teacher in my field of Spiritual Direction, Suzanne Stabile. There was one thought that has stuck with me for that time and I keep turning it over and over in my head. I hope that it will spark your curiosity to explore what it means in the context of mentoring the men around you:
"People can't change how they see. Lots of people haven't been taught how to change what they do with what they see. Most of our judgement of other people comes from not understanding that people don't see the same thing we see."

Critical thinking in the age of social media is so, so important. Our shared experiences in different situations in life with different knowledge and perspective will help form our responses and pass along our experience to those see something different in the same scenario, the same social media post, etc. It is helpful to approach our mentees and others with whom we interact with a posture of curiosity. Finding out more; suggesting other ways that something might be seen, if helpful. And we must be willing to change, to look back and say "I got that wrong," looking forward in turn to how our mind can be renewed by the Holy Spirit as we spend time with Jesus and in the Word. This is a "both/and" conversation, and our mission to the guys we mentor is helping them to gain experience and skills in this area. Blessings as you explore your own curiosity and sharpen your sword in this critical area!
